AUSTRALIA (KRON) — A fisherman from Australia caught a gigantic tiger shark off the coast of New South Wales just moments after the beast devoured a smaller hammerhead shark.
The fisherman, Matthew, confirmed he reeled in the massive 18-foot-long shark last month.
Matthew said he was hunting for sharks about 14 miles off of the Tweed Heads coast when he spotted a coveted catch: a 6-foot-long hammerhead. But as he was trying to nab the small shark, an even bigger shark swam up, he said.
“I was fighting the Hammerhead and he came up and swallowed it,” Matthew said.
After the tiger shark ate the hammerhead shark, Matthew reeled and hauled it in the tiger shark.
The fisherman yanked out its jaw to keep its teeth as a souvenir. He sold the rest of it to a fish market, he said.
The catch comes after a record number of reported shark attacks off of the Australian coast. But Matthew said there was no surge in attacks, only an increased awareness thanks to the Internet.
